Rothman’s Quarterly Update Q4 2022
Hi everyone,
I truly hope everyone’s new year (2023) is off to a reasonable start. As always, oddities abound while I write this: the US is blanketed with some of the coldest weather we’ve seen in many years, a strange “weather” balloon is crossing over the continent, and I’ve personally found some things to chuckle about in my own life (in the joke section.)
I’ll give a quick status on where I am with my writing projects, and as the subject of this e-mail promised, I’ll let you guys know about a really unique giveaway associated with Time Trials.
There is a prequel short novel that was released in early January called Rise of the Administrator. It gives the backstory to the book being released in March and maybe even has a sneak peek into the first few chapters of the March release.
Alicia Yoder novel:
I’m actively working on the first Alicia Yoder novel that I hinted on in the past quarter. I’m not quite ready to release the data to you guys yet on some of the surprises I have in store, but I can give you a few hints:
- I will have a co-author on this series.
- Yes, Alicia is getting her own series, and I’m working with a fellow author who should bring some interesting perspectives.
- The first book will certainly be available this year, and I should note that the second book is also in the works and should be available this year as well.
- As always, this will release in English, but I expect German to follow soon after, along with French after that.
- In the next update I send, I should have covers to show as well as the reveal of who the co-author is, some story descriptions, and a schedule for release.
Time Trials:
As most of you know, March 7th is the release date for Time Trials (published by Baen, distributed by Simon & Schuster). But there is a giveaway happening right now (expires February 8th).
Unfortunately it is only for people in the US, I’m sorry to the rest of you outside the US, but it’s not something I have any control over.
One hundred e-books will be given away through this portal. The really cool part (from what I’m told) is that the winners will receive their e-books right away, one month ahead of the official release of the book.
So, if you’re interested, go ahead and enter the contest – it’s absolutely no cost to enter.
Dad joke(s) and funny observations of the day…
I’m putting this image in the joke section, mostly because I found it to be hilarious, but this literally happened to me, and is the picture I took at my local supermarket.
Briefly said: I was looking for arugula (some parts of the world call it roquette) and my local supermarket evidently didn’t have any in stock. I started perusing the other greens and my gaze locked onto a container of pre-washed “spinach.”
I put the word spinach in quotes, because for those of you familiar with spinach, you’ll notice that this container did not contain anything of the sort.
Inside the box of “spinach” was the arugula I was looking for. Clearly, the arugula was having an identity crisis, but it didn’t fool me!
It was great in the salad that I ended up making.
Following with the food theme, and in the same supermarket, I noticed these two items that arguably shouldn’t exist. Some of you might know me as an author who also happens to be a foodie, and I’m usually pretty open-minded to food varieties. There’s only one common food that I’m not a fan of, and that’s celery.
Well, after seeing these two items, I’ll add them to the list of things that I’m not so open-minded about.
I love hummus, but these varieties… not so much.
When you’re down by the sea and an eel bites your rear, that’s a moray.
My mood ring is missing … I don’t know how to feel about that.
As always, it’s okay to roll your eyes and groan – my humor sometimes leaves a bit to be desired. 🤷
Anyway, I hope everyone stays safe and healthy.
All my best,
Mike
